Senior Ruby on Rails Engineer

Sling Media is a digital lifestyle products company, focused on creating empowering entertainment experiences for consumers. Sling Media’s award-winning Slingbox turns any Internet-connected PC, Mac, or mobile device into your home television allowing you to watch your TV virtually anywhere in the world. The Sling Entertainment Group is a division of Sling Media and will deliver new applications and services enabled by the Slingbox’s marriage of familiar TV programming and richly interactive web-connected devices.

Responsibilities

• Participate in agile development methodology.
• Integrate third party solutions and service to support business initiatives.
• Provide support and perform system maintenance/upgrades.
• Assists in operations including release coordination and system deployment.
• Collaborate with third-party and vendors.

Required Skills

• Bachelor's degree and/or 3-5 years experience relating to web-based software development using Ruby. Other languages a plus (eg Java).
• Minimum of 5 years experience developing, testing, deploying and maintaining open source interactive web applications.
• Minimum of 5 years experience with any SQL-based database development (MySQL or Oracle experience especially).
• Real-world experience with Agile engineering practices (test-driven development, object-oriented design, refactoring) and project management practices (Scrum teamwork, User Story development and estimation).
• Thorough understanding of common web and e-commerce concepts and technologies, such as: HTTP, SSL, Javascript and variants, HTML and other client-side data formats (no graphic design skills required).
• Knowledge of OO design patterns, refactoring and unit testing.
• Ability to work collaborative, in a team environment and independently.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Actual experience on a ROR project a plus.
• Entrepreneurial spirit
• Interest in open-source and advanced Internet technologies.
• Experience with large volume, public-facing web sites preferred.
